This paper examines the economic and financial consequences of natural disasters in developing countries and droughts in Sub-Saharan Africa. The study evaluates efforts required to better understand the impact of disasters on national economies and financial systems. The paper discusses "mainstreaming" efforts in disaster management and analyzes the processes of integrating risk management into public and private development strategies and investment planning.
