This brief discusses the political and economic situation in Ukraine as well as efforts at reform after the collapse of President Viktor Yanukovych’s regime in 2014. The authors describe 1) Ukraine's post-revolutionary agenda, highlighting the fight against corruption and the lack of diversification in Ukraine's energy sector; 2) the role of the international community in post-revolutionary Ukraine; 3) anti-corruption efforts and establishment of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau to fight high-level corruption; and 4) efforts concerning deregulation and public finance. The authors argue that progress on reforms must continue, otherwise public support will wane and dissatisfaction increase, which in turn could cause further political instability.
