This paper first explores the deteriorating relationship between the EU and Azerbaijan, which is partially attributable to Brussels' criticism of the country's undemocratic practices and Baku's counterclaims of European Islamophobia. The text's authors then examine how Azerbaijan's recent rapprochement with Russia and its ongoing standoff with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh could impact 1) the overall security of the South Caucasus region, and 2) EU-Azerbaijan energy projects.
