This paper assesses the development of the Justice and Development Party's (AKP) voter turnout since the party came to power in 2002. The author notes that after the 2015 elections, the AKP gave the impression that it wants to form a coalition government, but in reality the party has used various tactics to increase its share of the vote in preparation for a snap election. These tactics include increasing the nationalist vote and damaging the main Kurdish party which, in turn, has resulted in escalating the conflict with the Kurds. The author concludes that these actions have made it evident that the AKP's main aim is to win power at all costs in the next elections.
