This commentary looks at the effect of the Syrian refugee crisis and the Syrian civil war on Turkey. The authors argue that Turkey plays a key role because a large number of Syrian refugees are on its territory, and the country is the first stop on the main migration route to Europe. Furthermore, Turkey is overburdened with the huge masses of Syrian refugees because of own internal problems with the Kurds, and the campaign for early parliamentary elections. Finally, they discuss difficulties of effective Turkish-EU dialogue in dealing with the refugee crisis.
