This brief focuses on Turkey's attempts to deal with the Syrian refugee crisis over the last four years. The sad truth is that most Syrians in Turkey live in a socio-political limbo, some exist in dire straits, and many have sought refuge in Europe just to survive. If the EU hopes to deal with this problem intelligently, the brief’s author argues, it must adopt policies that take into account Turkey's dual role as a transit and host country for refugees.
