This recent report measures the general status of positive peace, which is defined as the attitudes, institutions and structures which create and sustain peaceful societies around the world. More specifically, the report 1) provides a detailed description of the Institute for Economics and Peace's (IEP) framework for positive peace, which includes eight characteristics of highly peaceful societies; and 2) summarizes the findings of IEPs 2015 Positive Peace Index (PPI), which stress that this type of peace has improved over the last decade, especially in the developing world. That’s good news because countries with strong levels of positive peace are in a better position to deal with unforeseen shocks and local resistance movements.
