This brief examines African maritime security, the threats it faces, particularily from piracy, and the strategies that can be adopted to tackle them. These strategies include enhancing information-sharing in the African maritime domain in order to facilitate and strengthen maritime cooperation and improve security. In particular, the author suggests that stakeholders must support the establishment of African information sharing centers to collate, analyze and disseminate information and data in a holistic, transparent and trustworthy manner.
