This backgrounder overviews the political situation in Eritrea and how it's forcing many of the country's people to migrate elsewhere. In analyzing this problem, the author specifically looks at 1) how Eritrea is governed and what its political culture is like; 2) why Eritreans are fleeing the country, how many of them have left, and where they are going to; and 3) the EU's and US' current policies towards Eritrean asylum seekers.
