This brief contemplates how Oman's domestic politics, foreign policy and overall diplomatic posture are being affected by the hegemonic power plays of Saudi Arabia and Iran. The brief's author ultimately concludes that despite Oman's ability to maintain internal political stability in a region full of turmoil, the ruling Sultan has concentrated his power to an extreme degree. That this development does not sit well with those Omanis who want economic reforms, more job opportunities, an end to corruption, and more political freedoms goes without saying. Future trouble may indeed be on the horizon.
