The 2015 version of the Global Terrorism Index analyzes the changing trends and patterns of worldwide terrorism since 2000, with a particular emphasis on 2014. While doing so, the Index breaks down terrorist assaults by geography, methods of attack, the organizations involved, and the national economic and political context in which they occurred. The specific findings of this year's Index include the following -- 1) in 2014 the total number of deaths from terrorism increased, as did the countries in which they occurred; 2) terrorism remains highly concentrated in Iraq, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria; 3) the terrorist problem in Nigeria grew significantly last year; 4) the incidents of 'lone wolf' attacks increased in the West; and 5) the flow of foreign fighters into Iraq and Syria continued. Finally, the Index speculates on the underlying factors that seemingly give rise to terrorism.
