This brief examines the dynamics surrounding the Southern Gas Corridor, which is the pending supply route running from Azerbaijan via Turkey to Europe. More specifically, the brief looks at 1) the Corridor's significance for the EU, Azerbaijan and Turkey; 2) the factors that are essential for the implementation of this project; and 3) the impediments that stand in its way, including dubious EU-Russia relations, Moscow's advocacy of an alternate Turkish Stream gas pipeline project, and the geopolitical winds presently buffeting Azerbaijan and Turkey.
