This paper argues that Russia’s recent emphasis on non-linear warfare isn't a new strategy or concept. If anything, it draws from Soviet-era Deep Operations Theory and Reflexive Control Theory in order to create a "disguised blitzkrieg impact." The impact, in turn, is created by using elite troops and a wide array of non-military means, such as concealing your true geopolitical intentions and surreptitiously influencing your competitors’ "decision-making algorithms." If NATO hopes to blunt this Sun Tzu-like approach to war, then it will need to develop new capabilities, particularly when it comes to intelligence analysis and strategic forecasting.
