This analysis highlights the multiple implications of Russia’s pivot towards Asia and argues that the shift should be taken seriously. More specifically, the text’s author 1) examines the strategic rationale behind Russia’s reorientation; 2) assesses the possible economic, geopolitical, security and regional effects of Moscow’s pivot; 3) considers the internal and external obstacles to the planned shift; and 4) explores how Australia should respond to it.
