This report looks at recent Saudi-Pakistani strategic relations. More specifically, the text’s author describes how in 2013 the Muslim League-led government of Nawaz Sharif sought to intensify its diplomatic and strategic ties with Saudi Arabia but was thwarted by the Pakistani Parliament, which decided to 1) maintain the country’s traditional policy of neutrality and non-interference in Middle Eastern affairs, and 2) not send troops to fight in Yemen. As the author sees it, although the motive for these actions was to maintain friendly relations with its neighbors, including Iran, that doesn’t mean the Pakistan government wants them to become permanent irritants in its relations with Saudi Arabia.
