This note focuses on Burkina Faso's political future, particularly in the wake of the coup d'état that ousted President Blaise Compaoré in October 2014. The text’s authors argue that the country has yet to establish 1) a democratic process that clearly breaks from previous patterns of one-party rule, and 2) a ‘moderate’ approach towards the Compaoré regime’s legacy. In the last case, that could involve the transitional government adopting a cautious approach to those who participated in the coup.
