This paper argues that Colombia has accrued genuine political and economic successes in its recent history, including improved health care services, reduced poverty, increased investment, and “infrastructure bonuses.” According to the text’s author, political consensus building has largely been responsible for “the Colombian miracle.” Indeed, if the government wants to build on this momentum, it should 1) continue to elicit public support for the peace process with the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), and 2) eliminate the obstacles to innovative industrial production.
