This issue of the RAD features two articles that focus on the manipulation of information by both Russia and Ukraine. The first article analyzes the information warfare (IW) being practiced by the television network Russia Today. More specifically, it dissects RT’s YouTube programming and concludes that while the network adapts its output to different audiences, it generally practices a familiar IW technique – i.e., it mirror images or reverses whatever criticism the West happens to level at Russia. The second article wonders whether the Ukrainian government is quashing critical media coverage, particularly by the newspaper known as Vesti, under the guise of fighting Russian propaganda.
