This report examines the educational problems displaced Syrian youths are experiencing in Jordan. When it comes to their schooling, it appears1) younger children are being given more systematic and preferential treatment than older ones, 2) vocational training opportunities are not openly available, and 3) older youths are facing other related challenges, including limited transport to and from school, mismatched curricula, and garden-variety bullying. In order to ameliorate these problems, the report’s author recommends 1) establishing a minimum standard for refugee education, especially during emergencies, and 2) crafting holistic programs that link education, health and future livelihoods together.
