This commentary focuses on whether NATO should buttress up its nuclear deterrence capabilities against Russia and the difficulties such a step would raise for Germany. To protect its interests, Berlin will have to 1) clearly define its position on this issue; 2) actively participate in Alliance discussions; and 3) vigorously promote its own positions, ideally in concert with other like-minded states.
