This paper examines the recent transformations in Sri Lanka’s political system, particularly when it comes to the dominance and endurance of the country’s political elite. The text’s author specifically argues that the focus on elite politics, as well as the violent resistance against the state by groups such as the LTTE and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), aggravated a general myopia towards the game-changing democratic dissent and resistance displayed by smaller political actors in 2015.
