This commentary explores the risks, opportunities and potential side-effects of the United Kingdom's attempts to revise its relationship with the European Union. The text's author specifically zeros in on the UK's demands for greater 'flexibility' in its dealings with Brussels, particularly when it comes to 1) competitiveness, 2) sovereignty, and 3) migration policies, and 4) the relationship between Euro-currency states and non-Euro states. Finally, the text's author presents three possible paths the EU might take in response to the UK’s demands – reject or concede them, or start reordering the European Union’s complex differentiated structure.
