This text focuses on the identities European polities express through their foreign policies. The text's author first argues that the recent reemphasis on geopolitics in Europe isn't normal. Instead, it should be seen as an answer to, or a perceived easy fix for, the disorienting political identity crises that have occurred since 1989 at the national, cross-national, and "Western" levels. The author then explores the overlap between national and cross-national policy identities and which of the two is more prevalent in foreign relations.
