This brief looks at the renewed risk of nuclear war between the NATO Alliance and Russia, particularly given the continued centrality of nuclear arms in Moscow's national security strategy and military doctrine. In response, argues the brief's author, NATO needs to reinvigorate its nuclear deterrence mission and consider possible modifications to its conventional and nuclear posture.
