In order to unravel India’s complex foreign policy identity, this report first describes the country’s global interactions from the time of Jawaharlal Nehru up to Narendra Modi. The text's authors then explore the country's current foreign policy tilts in five representative areas -- climate change, energy security, food security, economic engagement, and the Responsibility to Protect. By doing so, the authors confirm that New Delhi's approach to foreign policy is indeed varied and often contradictory.
