Despite Russia's bellicose foreign policy and the threats that exist along their southern flank, the majority of NATO’s European members are finding it difficult to improve their defense capabilities and meet the spending commitments they made at the 2014 Wales Summit. In response, this text looks at the defense spending of six NATO nations (the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Norway) and then recommends ways for them to meet their Alliance commitments.
