This collection of policy briefs focuses on Japan’s evolving contributions to international peace, particularly by working through the United Nations. In order, the briefs 1) explore Japan’s proactive relationship with the UN; 2) explain the concept of “human security,” which Tokyo believes is a useful concept to guide international developmental, humanitarian, and peace-building efforts; 3) describe Japanese and American efforts to address state fragility; 4) look at Japan’s efforts to provide human resources for peacekeeping operations; and 5) offer a new perspective on Japan’s "double triangular partnership approach" to peacekeeping.
