This commentary 1) takes stock of the security situation on the Korean Peninsula; 2) concludes that a new tension-diffusing reconciliation policy is required between North and South; 3) reminds all stakeholders that they will have to make concessions for the policy to work; and 4) identifies what an alternative approach to Korean security might look like.
