This paper examines Kazakhstan’s involvement in international organizations since its independence in 1991. More specifically, its authors examine 1) the country’s nonproliferation and confidence building efforts in Asia; 2) its attempts to promote interreligious and intercultural dialogue, particularly with the Turkic-speaking world; 3) the role it has played in Eurasian integration initiatives, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Eurasian Economic Union; and 4) its maturing relationship with international organizations. Finally, the text's authors examine how Kazakhstan’s relationship with international organizations reflects its foreign policy, and how geopolitical changes in its neighborhood might impact the policy.
