This report reviews Afghan-Pakistan relations after the departure of President Hamid Karzai from office. More specifically, the text’s author discusses 1) both the difficulties and implications of Ashraf Ghani’s attempted rapprochement with Pakistan; 2) how Islamabad has responded to the president’s efforts, to include its role in bringing the Taliban to the negotiating table; 3) the future prospects for internal Afghan reconciliation; and 4) how to address the security challenges still facing the country.
