In response to Russia's increased saber-rattling in the Baltic region and beyond, this commentary discusses how Sweden and Finland have expanded their bilateral military cooperation with the US and are developing -- in measured ways -- their links with NATO. The text's authors also explores how the US has become more aware of the two states’ strategic importance, to include viewing them as an extension of NATO’s northeastern flank in its contingency planning.
