This report discusses the domestic and foreign policy challenges Myanmar faces as it strives to embrace democratic reforms and reintegrate with Southeast Asia and the world. The text specifically looks at 1) the US’ assistance in restoring healthy civil-military relations in the country; 2) the ongoing de-politicization of Myanmar’s military; 3) the illicit commercial activity surrounding the country’s jade industry; 4) the critical importance of biosecurity for Myanmar, to include developing renewable energy sources; 5) the country’s ties with North Korea; and 6) the challenges surrounding local maritime security.
