This briefing describes the deteriorating relationship between Saudi Arabia and the US in the wake of the nuclear deal between the P5+1 nations and Iran in late 2015. The current difficulties turn on 1) competing attitudes towards regional security within the Persian Gulf, and 2) Saudi Arabia’s efforts to ‘securitize’ the US public’s vision of Iran, which has failed thus far.
