This paper addresses political and strategic issues regarding the deployment of multinational forces in the Persian Gulf during the First Gulf War. The author explains what the political objectives of the US in the region are, and discusses whether those objectives are within the capabilities of the US defense forces. The paper also offers different policy options for the US government on how to deal with the situation.
