This publication examines whether al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) manipulates and distorts religious doctrine for its propaganda. By mapping Qur’an quotations used by the group, the author finds that the terrorist organization quotes the text rigorously, but in an incomplete way, shortening more than half of the Qur’anic quotations it uses in a way that suits its agenda.
