This publication examines China’s Silk Road Initiative, focusing on Beijing’s enthusiastic assessment of the project’s progress and how it contrasts with the lingering doubts felt by neighboring states. The doubts stem from the initiative’s perceived lack of clarity and the apparent failure of projects that have been pursued thus far. However, despite these teething problems, the initiative remains a key tool in China’s attempts to strengthen its global position.
