This paper recommends ways that the next US presidential administration might move the US-Iran relationship in a more positive direction, and thereby build on the Obama administration’s 2015 nuclear agreement. By embracing a handful of specified suggestions, the new administration could work bilaterally to reduce the possibility of a military confrontation with Tehran, improve the Middle East’s security environment, and build up cooperation in areas of shared concern.
