This report focuses on the factual and historical aspects of institution building in Kosovo under the administration of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). The author outlines the institutional development, the internal structure and the mandate of UNMIK. Furthermore, he describes the various bodies established within the Joint Interim Administration Structure (JIAS) and briefly mentions the basic structure of the police and the military in Kosovo.
