This paper analyzes America's oil policy and its perspectives. The author focuses on ways to move beyond a petroleum-based economy and reduce dependency on Middle Eastern oil. The study assesses the strategic and political implications of the goal of replacing more than 75 percent of US oil imports from the Middle East by 2025. The study concludes that although the process of decreasing oil dependence has started, it is still not fully sufficient enough to ensure the US' future national security through independence from Middle Eastern oil imports.
