This bulletin analyzes the recent formation of a new coalition between Bulgaria’s center-right party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) and the nationalist alliance of the United Patriots (OP). The text’s author specifically traces the GERB’s initial search for a coalition partner and dissects the new GERB-OP agreement. While the two parties managed to overcome ideological differences in favor of a common pro-EU program, the author suggests that the alliance may ultimately threaten Bulgaria’s bilateral relations with Turkey.
