This paper investigates the impact of the US-led war on terrorism on the security policy of Japan. The author details the role of Japan as a major developed power and key US ally, and historically as one of the strongest practitioners of the political economy of security. The paper considers Japan's case along that of the US and European powers and explains how Japan's most preeminent security concerns center around terrorist insurgencies in Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as on nuclear weapons proliferation in North Korea.
