This paper analyzes the Japanese government's resistance strategy with regards to the US-Japan alliance. The author states that while many American policy specialists may believe that Japan often resists US policy, most Japanese people do not share such a perception, even if Japan does not always accept US demands. The paper examines the basic patterns of US-Japan diplomacy during the past few decades and concludes that the Japanese government has not often resisted the US, usually going along with the US government's positions and demands even if doing so isolates it internationally.
