This paper explores the characteristics of Egyptian irregular migrants to Europe and the reasons for irregular migration. The author analyzes the irregular migration practices through a field survey in Egyptian villages particularly known for sending regular and irregular migrants to Italy and France. The paper focuses on the broad dimensions of both legal and illegal migration and tries to define the socio-political and economic factors that lead to the decision to migrate.
