This article examines the events and decisions that led to the proclamation of the Truman doctrine in March 1947 and assesses the latter's impact on the Greek state during the Greek civil war. The author highlights the application of US containment policy in the case of Greece and argues that this set the country on a course to economic prosperity and political stability.
