It considers the arid and semi-arid zones of the Middle East region and discusses the state of the Nile, the Euphrates, the Tigris, the Jordan rivers and groundwater. The study presents statistical data of water use in these regions and assesses the causes of water shortage, namely, population explosion, efforts to raise the standard of living and local and global droughts.
