This paper considers the economic restructuring and integration process in the Balkans. It outlines the post-1989 economic predicament and the level of Balkan integration. Next, the paper considers the prospects faced by these countries collectively in relation to the unfolding changes in the European Union itself. The study states that the relationship between the Balkan states and the EU will determine the pace and success of the region’s future growth and development.
