This paper examines the main security problems in the Mediterranean. It highlights the interdependence of the regional security system and considers the following issues: Islamic fundamentalism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and militarization of the Mediterranean. Additionally, the study draws attention to the need for economic development and cooperation including democratization process.
