This paper discusses the political situation of the Czech Republic and Slovakia after their separation at the end of the Cold War. The author describes the political processes in both countries and examines possible security problems they may face. The paper also offers advice for future policies for the region and concludes that although the division of the Czechoslovak Federal Republic into two separate states has proceeded with unusual civility, the future regional security implications should remain significant.
