This paper examines the role of Iran's military in the Iranian Revolution and asks how Khomeini and his followers were able to politically, socially and militarily neutralize the armed forces of the Pahlavi Regime. The author reviews the historical events of the revolution and argues that the Iranian revolution succeeded not only in spite of the armed forces, but because of them. The paper concludes that the Khomeini regime neutralized the military socially and politically from within, thereby partially negating its effectiveness.
