This workshop report looks at the evolving security, political and economic situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and its implications for the UN Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO). The participants also outlined recommendations for MONUSCO in light of the anticipated renewal of the mission´s mandate in 2018, which include 1) MONUSCO’s political strategy should continue to prioritize the fostering of legitimate national elections in the DRC; 2) MONUSCO should adopt a more dynamic civilian protection strategy; 3) MONUSCO should work toward the creation of a considered and strategic exit strategy, and more.
